Q&A.
You should understand what you are walking into. Here are the questions new students and parents ask most often.
01Do I need experience?+
No. Most people begin with none. Adult Beginners, Padawans, Younglings, and our intro process are designed to give new students a clear first step.
02Do I need to get in shape first?+
No. Waiting to get in shape before starting Jiu-Jitsu is like waiting to get flexible before stretching. Training is the process that develops your conditioning.
03Is Force gi or no-gi?+
Force is a no-gi Jiu-Jitsu academy. Students train in athletic clothing or rash guards and grappling shorts—without the traditional kimono.
04What should I wear to my first class?+
Wear a fitted athletic shirt and shorts or leggings without zippers, pockets, or metal. Remove jewelry, trim nails, and bring water. We will explain the rest before class.
05Will I have to spar on day one?+
Your first experience will be controlled and matched to your readiness. You will not be thrown into a chaotic round without instruction or context.
06Is Jiu-Jitsu safe for kids?+
Jiu-Jitsu is a contact activity, so risk cannot be eliminated. Force reduces unnecessary risk through structured instruction, appropriate partners, controlled resistance, clear rules, and active coaching.
07Does my child have to compete?+
No. Competition is available for students who want it and are prepared for it, but it is not required to benefit from training or advance in the program.
08Can parents coach from the sidelines?+
We ask parents to let the coaching staff coach during class. Your job is to support attendance, effort, and resilience. Multiple voices giving technical directions usually make learning harder.
09What if my child wants to quit when class gets hard?+
That moment is often where the real lesson begins. We will distinguish between a genuine problem and normal discomfort, then work with you instead of immediately treating difficulty as a reason to stop.
10How often should we train?+
Consistency beats occasional intensity. For most students, two to three classes per week creates enough repetition to progress while remaining sustainable.
11Can adults attend the beginner and regular classes?+
Yes. Adults can attend beginner and regular Jiu-Jitsu classes. We will help a new student choose the best entry point based on experience, goals, and schedule.
12How do I start?+
Complete the Free Intro Class form. A member of the Force team will contact you personally, learn what you need, and schedule the right first visit.
